General Info

Tucked away in the lively streets of Toshima City, Tokyo, Miraku Theatre is the kind of izakaya restaurant that feels both intimate and full of character. From the moment you step inside, the atmosphere leans into that classic Japanese dining vibe-warm lighting, close seating, and a buzz that makes dinner feel like an experience rather than just a meal.

The menu here is where things really start to shine. If you’re visiting for the first time, the うにとイクラのtkg is a must-try. It’s simple in concept but rich in flavor-fresh sea urchin and salmon roe layered over rice, creating a creamy, briny bite that feels indulgent without being overwhelming. Pair that with the 刺身盛り合わせ, and you get a well-rounded introduction to the restaurant’s approach: fresh, clean, and focused on quality ingredients.

As the evening builds, heartier dishes come into play. The ほっけの塩焼き is grilled to perfection, with crispy skin and tender, flaky meat inside. It’s the kind of dish that works perfectly alongside a drink, especially in a setting like this. Another standout is the 鰹たたき藁焼き, where the smoky aroma from the straw fire adds depth to the lightly seared bonito. It’s bold, slightly charred, and incredibly satisfying.

Then there’s the 蟹味噌グラタン, which leans into comfort food territory. Rich, creamy, and packed with crab flavor, it’s the dish that keeps you lingering at your seat just a bit longer. Speaking of seating, the arrangement is cozy but well thought out, making it easy to relax whether you’re dining solo or with a group.

In terms of services, Miraku Theatre covers all the essentials. Dinner service is the highlight, but delivery is also available for those who want to enjoy the menu at home. The space includes accessible features like an assistive hearing loop, along with standard amenities such as restrooms, making the overall experience more inclusive and comfortable.

Location-wise, being in Kitaotsuka means it’s easy to reach and surrounded by the energy of Tokyo’s urban life. Reviews often highlight the balance between authentic flavors and a welcoming environment, which makes sense once you’ve spent some time here. It’s not just about the food-it’s about how everything comes together, from the menu to the atmosphere, creating a place you’ll likely want to revisit.

What customers say?

“ I can't understand why the tasting isn't higher, it's a fantastic place. I went for lunch and I really couldn't believe the quality. You can see from the photo but there was really fresh sashimi and a roasted red snapper head and lots of side dishes to eat with your rice as well as two drinks included (even alcohol if you wanted!). The atmosphere was really welcoming. The staff were friendly and the music was great with a cool interior too. ”

“ Fish Shop Miraku Theater in Otsuka Izakaya in Otsuka Order [Appetizer] [Pickled Vegetables]: 462 yen [Seared Eel]: 715 yen [Simmered Eggplant with Ginger]: 418 yen [Drinks] [Kaku Highball Mega, Strong]: 1,144 yen [Notes] This is a place I visited with a friend who was also attending a snack event he was hosting, as a second stop on the way home. June 2012. We arrived just after 11:00 PM on a Saturday, and the restaurant was about 50-60% full. ・Appetizer The appetizer was "homemade, freshly fried fish cakes," served in a wooden box with a single sheet of nori seaweed. The outside was crispy and fragrant, while the inside was soft and chewy, allowing the aroma and warmth of freshly fried fish to really come through. The batter gently released the sweetness of the white fish, accented with a hint of ginger, making it the perfect flavor to kick-start your drink. When you wrap it in the accompanying nori seaweed, the aroma of the sea was added, creating a completely different flavor experience. It was a truly delicious dish!・Pickled vegetables Three types of pickled vegetables presented beautifully on one plate. My personal favorite was the bitter melon pickled vegetables, with their crunchy texture and gentle bitterness that made them a great snack to pair with alcohol. The bonito flakes on top were designed to give off a soft, fragrant aroma that was addictive. The assortment was just right for a palate cleanser or snack, and despite its simplicity, it was a dish that was hard to stop eating! ・Seared Eel Seared eel marinated in dashi broth and topped with a generous amount of fresh ginger, grated daikon radish, and green onions. The fragrantly grilled eel was crispy on the outside and plump and soft on the inside. The dashi broth poured over it was extremely refined, probably based on the umami of bonito, but with an exquisite balance that gently enveloped the eel's fat. The refreshing aroma of the fresh ginger, the refreshing taste of the grated daikon radish, and the crunchy texture of the green onions on top combined to create a multi-layered flavor that spread throughout the mouth. It was so delicious, with a sweet taste that made me want to keep drinking! ・Simmered Eggplant with Ginger Sliced eggplant in a simmered dish, delicately garnished with fresh ginger. The glossy, cooked eggplant is visually stunning, conveying the careful preparation that went into it. It's so soft you can easily cut it with your chopsticks, and the savory flavor of the broth seeps out and fills your mouth—it's irresistible. The aroma and spiciness of the accompanying fresh ginger really bring the dish together, adding a touch of spice to what could otherwise be a monotonous stew. It was delicious! The restaurant is located about a 2-3 minute walk from the north exit of JR Otsuka Station. Exit the north exit and continue straight ahead to find the restaurant in a corner of Otsuka Noren-gai. The interior is reminiscent of a charming pub, offering a comfortable space perfect for both lively and intimate drinking. There are 54 seats in total, including six counter seats and multiple two- and four-person tables. The clientele tends to be groups of friends and couples, and at the time of our visit, the majority of the customers seemed to be in their 30s and 40s. The food was delicious, thank you for the meal (*´◒`*) ”

“ Close to Otsuka Station! Asahi draft beer! Counter and table seating available, with a second floor! The food is delicious, the portions are generous, the service is great, and the atmosphere is casual. We went without a reservation, but it was bustling, so we recommend making a reservation even before you visit! ”

“ It's located in Noren-gai, right in front of Otsuka Station. It's right behind Bongo, a restaurant famous for its rice balls. The food at this restaurant was delicious! The bonito tataki, squid tentacles, and crab miso gratin were even better than I expected! ”
